I recently watched the movie “Inception” with Leonardo DiCaprio.  In this movie, they used a technology that allowed people to infiltrate a person’s dream state in order to mess with their subconscious mind to either extract information or embed new beliefs into their unsuspecting human target.  Even though this is a Science Fiction movie, it reminded me of how we are all victims of buried subconscious beliefs from our conditioning that do not serve us and how we must embed new more empowering beliefs to replace them.

Your subconscious mind, as the movie reveals, is very powerful and contains many “secrets” you are often not aware of.  One of the keys to getting a new belief to “stick” in their victims mind in the movie was to attach the new belief to an emotion.  This is the same way you are conditioned to create certain beliefs in your subconscious mind whether you wanted them or not.  You were conditioned to believe certain things growing up because of an emotional attachment you had to that conditioning.

The media conditions us to desire a certain look or lifestyle so we will buy their products using the power of emotions, positive or negative, in their advertising.  Many people are conditioned in a similar way around money.  If as a child you witnessed angry emotional outbursts around money and heard things like “Money doesn’t grow on trees!” or “Rich people are such snobs”, then subconsciously you will believe these statements to be true.

As a result, many of us fall in the trap of wanting what we think we should want because we’re conditioned to live up to not just our parents conditioning, but societal and cultural expectations and conditioning as well.

This includes a variety of beliefs such as….

·         Only boys are good at math and science

·         You must go to college in order to get a good job and be secure financially.

·         You must live a particular lifestyle

·         You must look a certain way and/or be at a certain weight

·         You must avoid taking risks at all costs

·         You must follow a certain career path

·         Men are the breadwinners and Women are the nurturers

·         You can’t make money doing what you love

·         And more, the list goes on and on…

The problem is…these beliefs may not be part of your true path at all and keep you paralyzed, stuck and feeling miserable and you don’t know why! When you are living into other people’s beliefs and stories about how life should be instead of your own, you are still hanging onto subconscious beliefs that are not your own.

Your first job is to get clear on what your idea of your best YOU and your best life is, and then begin to relieve yourself of the beliefs and feelings that are keeping you from it.

It can be really scary once you get a peek or a hint of what you really want! You may be subconsciously reluctant to acknowledge your true authentic desires, because to admit and recognize what YOU want makes you vulnerable to failure and disappointment.

You face risks when you set your heart on something-especially something others in your life don’t agree with! Daring to live your own life takes courage and boldness, but it well worth the risks.
