Each of us has full responsibility to be the person we were meant to be in this world. When you eat toxic foods and as a result, feel terrible, then you are wasting your precious time in your body and on this planet. The world needs you to show up fully. The root cause of nearly all disease — cancer, diabetes, heart disease, it doesn’t matter — is an overload of toxins and chemicals accumulating inside your body. Period.
Toxins are everywhere. The food we eat, the air we breathe, the household cleaners we spray, the electronics we use on a daily basis… However, toxic free radicals are formed in the body too. Stress hormones, emotional disturbances, anxiety and negative emotions all create free radicals as well.
Despite your best efforts to be healthy and fit, years of toxic “sludge” can quietly build up inside your body and you won’t even know it.
If there is one thing I know for sure about Western medicine, its this – it’s totally focused on relieving your symptoms, but it almost never considers the root causes of what made you sick in the first place.
Personally, I was doing everything I knew to try and “stay healthy,” but something was missing. I was struggling with weight gain, and I was starting to get frustrated. No matter what I did, my weight wouldn’t budge, I started doing some research and realized I could focus all I wanted on improving my diet, but if my colon can’t absorb the nutrients (because its toxic), its not going to do any good. I could exercise every day, but if my blood, lungs and lymphatics are toxic, I’m just circulating waste throughout my body every time I work out. If my colon and kidneys still had toxic blockages, I can end up with even more toxic buildup, as the toxins that are being expelled have nowhere to go. Wow, that was eye opening.
The years of not knowing what was in my food, eating out a lot, and drinking wine every day after work to deal with the stress had finally caught up to me. My body was in toxic overload and it was affecting my health, energy and weight. I couldn’t ignore it any longer and neither should you.
I know what you’re thinking, “Your body is naturally supposed to be able to heal itself, right?”, “Isn’t that what your liver is for, to “detoxify” what you feed the body?”
True, living without toxic buildup is virtually impossible, which is why our body has built in mechanisms to deal with toxic overload. Crying, sweating, urination and defecation are all natural protocols employed by the body to rid itself of toxins.
In theory, your body should be able to process the waste products and the toxins that you’re exposed to.
However, in this day and age, we’re exposed to more chemicals and toxins and radiation in our environment and in our daily lives that at any other time in human history. According to the Environmental Working Group, there are nearly 85,000 man-made chemicals currently approved for use in the United States, and that number is rapidly increasing.
Last year, 42, 000 new toxins were introduced into our environment. Yikes!
Where are all these chemicals coming from? As mentioned above, toxins are everywhere, there are chemicals in our air, toothpaste, shampoo, cleaning products, cosmetics, water, air fresheners and in our food.
Although some of these chemicals may be harmless, a shockingly large portion of them are not. Many chemicals in our everyday environment are known to disrupt our endocrine system. This is the system responsible for secreting various hormones directly into our bloodstream to be taken throughout our body.
When toxins bind to sex hormones or thyroid hormones, it slows metabolism, causing weight gain. Additionally, toxins are stored in fat cells, also contributing to excess weight.
Many commonly used chemicals also disturb your primary organs including your liver, kidney and heart. I don’t think I need to explain to you how important those are to your health and well being!
Detoxification protocols can seem difficult and intimidating, but they don’t have to be. You don’t have to do a 30-day juice cleanse or some crazy water fast to get the benefits of detoxification. Sitting in a steam room or sauna, yoga, tai chi, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, avoiding meat one day a week, Epsom salt baths, emotional freedom technique, affirmations and acupuncture and acupressure are all excellent ways to gently detoxify your body.
Whatever you do, it is vitally important to take steps to optimize your health by reducing your exposure to toxins, and reducing your body’s toxic burden so you can have a fighting chance at warding off chronic disease and unhealthy weight gain.
